Dalene Bowden was fired last week after giving a free lunch to a 12-year-old girl — but after intense backlash, it looks like she’ll be able to return to her job as a cafeteria worker.
Bowden, who had worked in the Pocatello/Chubbuck School District of Pocatello, Idaho, for the past three years, said that after the student told her she had no money for food, she offered to pay the $1.70 charge — but her supervisor refused. So Bowden gave the student a free lunch.
She was then put on leave and subsequently fired, according to the Idaho State Journal.
Interim District 25 Superintendent Doug Howell has since offered Bowden the chance to return, according to a statement from Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25.
